Transcript – David interview

I made my friend’s interview as possible with as much information as possible. I want the audience to see what a young person’s perspective on the city is and what types of opportunities there are for many people. The interview is shirt but gives the audience information on what there is to do. This will go into my timeline at the very end of the documentary.

The reason there’s so many opportunities in Liverpool is because we’ve got famous places like The Cavern where The Beatles played, there’s so many venues to play music and to do all kinds.

The artists, there’s the open eye gallery, there’s the Tate, there’s the graffiti on bold street and its just really nice.

Interview and questions with friend

I had a short interview with my friend who lives in Liverpool. I filmed the interview in Everton Hills with Liverpool in the background rather than having just one iconic location in the background. You can see the Radio City Tower and the Anglican Cathedral and the Liver Building. The background matches the whole topic because he speaks about Liverpool and why he likes living there and what opportunities there are for people there.

I set the camera to the right of him whilst he is stood up and he. looks at the left side of the camera into the empty space whilst I asked him questions.

It  is being filmed in broad daylight so everything in the background can be seen.

I clipped the microphone onto his collar so everything he is saying is loud and clear. We also filmed it in a quiet area so everything can be heard.

I asked him two questions and the first question was what do you like about Liverpool, I asked this because I needed a young  person talking positively about the city. I then asked if there was any opportunities in the city and he talks about the different colleges and universities within the city even the music venues for live music and the art galleries and the football grounds for practise and football teams.

I had him sign a contributor release form which is a form explaining what he is agreeing to, it shows I have had his permission to let him star in my production.

Location recce and risk assessment – interview with friend

I have created a location recce for tomorrow when I film my interview with my friend about living in Liverpool and what the different opportunities there are in the city. The location recce has all my contact details on the location and also the directors details which are mine. It also determines the suitability of the location I am filming in.

I then created a risk assessment for this location which makes sure that the person responsible when on location has considered the safety of everyone involved in the filming from the contributor, the crew to the general public.

Interview with grandad problem

After watching the interview I did with my grandad, I realised that he looks at the other side of the camera. This was due to the camera being on the left side and him having to look to the right because of the space in the house and couldn’t go as planned. I should’ve gone and practised before I filmed the real thing and sorted it out. This room was the best place to film as well because of the lighting and it being the most quiet.

I have decided to make it as a voiceover when it comes to his part rather than have him in the shot and have to film it again. I will have archive footage over what he is saying and the shots I have already filmed of Anfield. I am doing this so I still have his part in the product rather than cutting his part out completely. I am not cutting the interview out because I want the audience to know what it was like back in the 1950s-1970s by someone who experienced it rather than hearing it from a voiceover that has read it from a script that hasn’t actually experienced.

If I don’t have enough cutaways when it comes to editing, I will have to edit the shot so it goes fits within the conventions of a direct interview.

I will get images of my grandad from when he was younger growing up in Anfield and his school, class and where he lived so I don’t run out of things to have over the whole voiceover. I will also use archive of Anfield years ago I will have to get online and I will cut down his interview and make it as short as I can and have the most relevant points he says in it.

I have listened to the interview and the audio is loud and clear so it would still be perfect for me to use as a voiceover.

I will have his interview after Frank has finished speaking and I will have it right after Frank has spoken about the Anfield project that took place in 2008 so it moves slowly to my grandad speaking.

Transcript – Grandad interview

I have watched my interview with my grandad and wrote a transcript of what I want him to say in my documentary so it is easier for when it comes to editing and I have shortened it right down so that my documentary is as short as I can make it including the voiceover and the other interviews.

I left school at fifteen and I was an apprentice at Taylor’s cutter. There was lots of employment back then but very low wage when I was a young man growing up.

When I got to about fourteen, that was the time of the Merseybeats coming out so we use to go to the likes of the Locarno, the Cavern and iron door.

On a Saturdays afternoon, we use to go to watch Liverpool because we lived between the two grounds and the following Saturday we’d go to see Everton play and then we’d go out have a few pints, go home, get ready and go into town for the night out. Great times.

Interview with Grandad

Today, I had my interview with my grandad on what it was like when growing up in Anfield and how it has changed since then to now.

I set my grandad on his couch in the corner next to the plant and in front of the mirror for decor but also to show the audience he is in his own home looking comfortable.

There are four large windows in the ceiling and the patio doors were on the right side of the interviewee so the whole room was lit up.

I used a mid shot of him right the way through the interview as he sat towards the left side of the camera. I got him to sit there whilst I set it up so I knew how I wanted the shot.

I gave him these questions and he answered them all honestly and told me some stories and what he did when he lived in Anfield when he was younger which I will use after Frank has finished speaking about Anfield.

He speaks a lot about being young and Anfield in the 1950s and on until he was in his twenties which means I will get some archival footage of Anfield back then I can get from the internet and also I will get images of my grandad as a child and get them scanned and put them over his interview.

I brought my contributor release form and a location release form for him to sign so I am getting his permission for using him in my production. I got him to sign the location release form which he had to sign because we were filming in his house so I needed proof that we had had permission to film there.

End of week 14 reflection

I didn’t do many things this week but I ended up Filming cutaways for them to go over my voiceover and my interviews and my montage at the very beginning.  I went to different places and why I filmed in them locations.

I then did some Platforms 2 research which was more research on the platforms I want to use when it comes to uploading my product to my chosen platforms. I looked at twitter on this blog because its a different platform from the other ones I had already looked at previously but I spoke about the type of page I would ask and ask them to tweet my youtube link so their followers will see and watch my video.

Platforms 2 research

I have looked into some twitter accounts who are Liverpool related which are mainly Liverpool culture accounts. I have looked at them and I can use them to  share my youtube account when I create one before I post on there so I already have my subscribers.

The first account I have found is called Culture Liverpool. Their header says ‘Music, Art, Food and more’ which most of them things are included in my production. To get them to share my video I will have to direct message them and ask if they would share the link. I will message them today.

Screenshot 2019-05-24 at 12.11.34.png

I have looked at the posts that they upload and they are both images and videos of everything that happens in Liverpool including festivals, events, arts and more. They get more than five likes on each post and the odd retweet on each post. They have 28.9k followers which means that if they do post my link on their twitter then there is a chance that 28.9k people will see it and the link will get likes and retweets because they get them on every post.

Screenshot 2019-05-24 at 13.42.15.png

I have looked at their followers and some of them are Liverpool related but also some of them are younger male and female and some of them look in their thirties and older. If I got my link tweeted by these then they may like or retweet it and their followers would see them who are most probably the same age as them.

Screenshot 2019-05-24 at 13.51.10.png

I have found another account on twitter I could use which is called Scouse Scene which is an account dedicated to Liverpool and post things to do with the news, culture, history and nightlife. I could also message them and ask them to tweet the link so their followers can like and retweet it and maybe subscribe to my channel.

Screenshot 2019-05-24 at 14.07.53.png

They post only Liverpool related stuff like events and culture stuff and anything to celebrate the city. I have looked at their likes and retweets they get and some of their tweets have over one hundred likes and retweets but some only get three and four likes. They have 25.3k followers which is less than the other account which means there may be more of a chance they will see my message because they have less followers and their page might not be as busy. If I get my link tweeted on here it means there is a chance that I might have 25.3k people see the link and like or retweet the link so that their followers will also be able to see my youtube account being tweeted about.
